Depression & Anxiety

Effects of Depression and Anxiety

The effects of depression and anxiety can be long-lasting and impact multiple areas of your life. When left untreated, both disorders can impact the way you view yourself and affect the way you interact with your family and loved ones. Symptoms of depression include: loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, over or stress eating, loss of energy, loss of interest in activities once found pleasurable, changes in movement, and suicidal thoughts. Symptoms of anxiety include: panic attacks, racing thoughts, feeling weak or tired, heightened alertness, changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, and feelings of dread or “impending doom.” Additionally, you can experience depression and anxiety at the same time.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an effective, evidence-based treatment known to significantly decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety within 16-20 sessions. It is the most widely known and used therapy treatment modality for both depression and anxiety. At Path2Growth, we are highly trained in CBT and use data to track symptoms at the beginning and end of treatment. We ensure that you are stabilized and symptoms of depression and anxiety have decreased. You will be given tools and strategies to help you challenge negative thoughts that may be impacting your mental health.

“I struggled with depression and anxiety for a very, very long time. I didn’t know what CBT was until I met with Dr. Toussaint who was very thorough in walking me through the process and making me feel comfortable. Now, I feel more confident and able to deal with whatever comes my way.”

Mindfulness-Based CBT

Mindfulness-Based CBT using the same techniques as CBT but adds relaxation techniques to help your mind and body stay in the present. We use a multitude of mindfulness techniques to help reduce stress, tension, and anxiety in the body.

Play Therapy

For children, play is how they express themselves and their emotions. We combine CBT with play therapy to help decrease depression and/or anxiety in children. Children enjoy coming to therapy and we enjoy helping them express themselves through play. Teens and even adults can benefit from connecting with their inner child through activities such as coloring or sensory-based play (play-doh, painting, etc.) At Path2Growth, we tailor our treatment plans to your needs and what treatment modality will be the most beneficial to your progress and growth.
